The Building of a New Bridge

Another Sunday and not a cloud in the sky! Dare we say spring has arrived and before we know it, we'll be complaining of how hot the summer is.

This drive first took us out to Surrey for a quick look at the Valley View Cemetery. It was a peaceful, sprawling place. Wonderful landscaping. But we never found any 'old' stones of interest. I'll have to look for older places to explore next time.

Then we were off to our intended destination. The new Pattullo bridge contstruction site. The original bridge, named for BC's 22nd premier, Thomas Dufferin Pattullo opened in 1937. In 2009 a fire at the south end of the bridge damaged the 18m wooden trestle that connected the steel and concrete structure to the earth berm. The new bridge is scheduled to open this year (2024) with a hefty $1.377 billion price tag..

Below are a few driving-around shots and the rest are of the bridge's progress.
(and two shots of an old 1930 Sunbeam from last week's drive).
